    Heads up--Santanas cheap in NY

Altec Santana For Sale | AudiogoN

Seems like a good deal on these things--they look like they're in good shape other than the dented dust cap (not a big deal/deal breaker). My only concern with Santanas would be if you ever blew a woofer--I don't think there's a recone kit for those biflex woofers is there?

    IMO, that's about top dollar.

I must admit, i got a bit excited at first. Before i enlarged a pic, it looked like the tweeters had been replaced with LE20's, foam rings and all.

    Recone them as 416's.

Anyway, kinda average deal as Bowtie said....the only value is the woofs...

I wouldn't recone them unless they were damaged. Once those drivers are gone, they're gone. Haven't we seen those being quite a bit of money overseas? Ship the goofy 2-in-1 drivers overseas, were they like them.

I was just saying how do deal with parts shortage.

Those silly things actually sound pretty good.

Sounds like you guys don't like the dia-cones they aren't too bad sounding if you never go above half volume on a small amp.

My Santanas are the B version with the 16" frame.
    Absolutely mint, and were $175.
The woofer runs full range and I believe the center dome being dented is not good.
I have no idea why most all of these you see have dented center domes.....kids with prying fingers I guess.

The tweeter is simply cap coupled.

I like the Santanas, they sound like altecs!

    Guilty as charged.

But, i didn't get greedy about it and made a fellow from Poland pretty happy.

I just wanted the boxes for my cabin.

I still have the original fronts and grills, with the thought that i might do the unthinkable and stuff a pair of 604's in them if they're deep enough, if not i've got some very nice PAS duplexes that will surely fit.

In the meantime they are doing this:
